CatholicCare hosts a number of events throughout the year to support and celebrate our wonderful Foster Carers and Foster Kids.

Carer Support Group
This group is for Foster and Kinship Carers to meet and share their experiences and expertise with each other. It is run monthly and facilitated by our group worker, Betty. Invitations are sent to carers each month, detailing the date and time of the session. Childminding is provided if required.

This fun and supportive group has an emphasis on improving outcomes for Foster Carers and kids. Anything discussed remains confidential to the group and it is run independently of the Foster Care staff.

All of our Foster Carers are encouraged to attend and the group also arranges social occasions so that our carers can get to know each other and have some fun.

You can talk about whatever you want and at times we have called on a Caseworker to attend for a short time in order to clarify any complex issues. There have been times of laughter and times of tears but most of all there has always been support and respect.”

Foster Care Week – Interagency Function
In September each year we celebrate everyone who is involved with Foster Care as part of national Foster Care Week. Foster Care agencies in the Hunter combine their resources to coordinate a fun event for the whole family during this week. 2009 saw a picnic at Speers Point Park with face painting, magicians, fire-twirlers and clowns, attended by over 300 people from throughout the Hunter.

Foster Care Week – CatholicCare Function
This annual function is our way of saying thank you to our fantastic Foster Carers who open up their hearts and homes to children in care. For the past few years we have hosted a special luncheon with beautiful food and an inspiring and entertaining guest speaker. This function is attended by many CatholicCare staff in Corporate and Social Services who recognise the important work that Foster Carers do for our community. We also arrange babysitting so you can really relax!

Annual Christmas Party
A new tradition was established in 2009 – a family Christmas Party for all fostering families. The CatholicCare staff, Foster Carers and kids had a fabulous time at Dizzyland. With rides, mini-golf, dancing and plenty of eating, it was such a hit that we knew we had to do it again. Our Christmas Party will now be an annual event so be prepared for some festive fun with the team!
