What Is Foster Care?

Foster Care is a safe place for a child or young person to stay when they cannot live with their own parents or extended family. These children may need a safe place because of neglect, abuse, or a family crisis — many have experienced some type of trauma. And that’s where Foster Carers come in.

Foster Carers are approved by Government and non-Government agencies to meet the day-to-day needs of children in care. At CatholicCare we offer a range of care options including long-term care, short-term care or respite care.

Being a Foster Carer is both challenging and rewarding. Our Foster Carers support children and young people in care to meet their full potential by providing them with stability, support, and nurturing. But our carers don’t have to do it alone. CatholicCare provides ongoing support and development opportunities to our carers as well as a regular allowance to assist them in meeting the needs of children in their care.
